Maximum insulation and moisture removal for riding in the cold, ideal as a layer between the base layer and the jacket.Polartec® Alpha® is an amazing insulation, it is soft, flexible and light. A few years ago, Castelli thought it would be great as a base layer, but it tended to feel wet and sticky on the skin. When they were looking for better insulation for sub-freezing driving, they tried using it on the Alpha® prototype as a second layer on top of the Prosecco base layer – and that's when they discovered the best combination for driving in the cold. They worked on the details and created this second layer for frosty rides. They used a half zip so it doesn't create bulk on the lower torso and sewed the zip slightly off center to avoid multiplying the number of zips at the neck.
